Trust Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ST1)

The Maxillofacial Unit is a self-contained department with purpose-built facilities. It was completed in March 2011 and comprises a reception area, 6 single clinical rooms, a 4-chair polyclinic and a minor procedure room. It has its own dedicated x-ray facility with intraoral, OPG, and Cone Beam CT. The department is moving towards being fully digital with a model scanner, an intra-oral scanner, facial scanner and Dolphin software. There is a state-of-the-art Maxillofacial Laboratory situated on the floor above the clinical area.All inpatient surgery is carried out at the William Harvey Hospital and patients are bedded on the dedicated Head andNeck ward (Rotary Ward) adjacent to the department. Day stay surgery is performed on the three main sites, WilliamHarvey Hospital, Kent and Canterbury Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mary Hospital, Margate. Outpatient clinicsare carried out at the 3 sites above and at Buckland Hospital, Dover. Small satellite departments are located at the Kent& Canterbury and at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospitals.Main duties of the jobThe main duties are located at the William Harvey Hospital. On occasions the Trust doctor will be required to visit theKent & Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury and the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate for day surgeryand outpatient clinics.Normal daily duties will include attendance at Out-Patients clinics for new and review patients and joint Orthognathic Clinics as well as delivering minor oral surgery under local anaesthetic. It will also involve the day to day care of patientsadmitted for maxillofacial surgery, the attendance at Main and Day Surgery operating theatre lists. Experience willinclude assisting and performing dento-alveolar surgery and assisting with salivary glands surgery, cancer surgery, freeflapsurgery and orthognathic surgery.On-Call is a 1:8 shift system shared with DCT in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the William Harvey Hospital, covering thededicated head & neck ward, treating casualty and trauma work as required as well as attendance at emergencyoperating sessions.About usWe are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people.
