Data Engineer – Geospatial

Job Title: Data EngineerReporting To: Technical ArchitectLocation: Bristol – Hybrid 2+ days in office per weekSalary: £40,000 – £60,000 depending on skills and experienceWe are looking for a Data Engineer with a Geospatial focus to develop and optimize data pipelines for processing vast datasets, including imagery, video, bathymetry, and 3D models. Reporting to the Technical Architect, you will play a key role in ensuring efficient geospatial data workflows, supporting AI-driven analytics, and enhancing offshore and subsea technology solutions.Your work will directly impact our geospatial AI platforms, helping to establish Beam as a leader in sustainable marine and renewable technologies.This position makes a significant impact on the business by delivering efficient and accurate data processing and interpretation, enabling next-generation capabilities in autonomy and computer vision, and helping to establish Beam as a leader in sustainable marine and renewable technologies.We’ll welcome your ideas & input and support your development, In addition, this is an incredible opportunity to help further the transition to renewable energy.Objectives & Responsibilities:Beam is an exciting and dynamic environment meaning these are likely to change as we grow. Upon joining your objectives and responsibilities will include:

  • Design, build, and maintain automated geospatial data pipelines
  • Process and manage large geospatial datasets (e.g., satellite imagery, point clouds, bathymetry)
  • Work with GIS tools and geospatial databases to ensure accessibility and security
  • Optimize workflows for handling geospatial data formats and 3D models
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers to integrate geospatial insights into AI models
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance across all geospatial assets

Key Projects & First 30/60/90 Days

  • First 30 Days: Understand existing data infrastructure, tools, and workflows. Establish collaboration with data scientists and engineers.
  • 60 Days: Begin designing and implementing automated data pipelines and streamlining geospatial data flow.
  • 90 Days & Beyond: Deliver production-ready pipelines for AI model training and geospatial analysis, optimizing performance and scalability.

  • Strong experience with Python and Linux
  • Hands-on expertise in GIS, geospatial data formats, and remote sensing
  • Proven ability to work with big data processing and cloud-based solutions (AWS preferred)
  • Knowledge of geospatial databases and technologies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
