This role will support a cutting-edge project focused on the implementation and scaling of AI/ML technologies, particularly Graph Neural Networks (GNN), Transformer Models, and Vision Transformers (ViTs), to predict mass spectra of chemical structures. The outcome will facilitate the identification and selection of molecules for medicinal indications within Pangea Bio’s AI platform, ultimately accelerating the discovery and development of novel therapeutics from natural products.Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist with a strong academic background and expertise in AI/ML applications in life science. This is a temporary position with a duration aligned with the project milestones, expected to last approximately 12 months. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and validating AI models and integrating them into the PangeAI platform.Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the mass spectrometry application space and the current machine learning landscape
- Conduct literature research and data selection to support model development and validation processes.
- Benchmark existing tools and evaluate their performance to inform the development of new methodologies
- Implement and optimize AI/ML models for mass spectrum prediction of natural product chemical structures
- Validate the developed models to ensure high accuracy and efficiency in predicting mass spectra
- Collaborate with the AI team to integrate the prediction models with the existing PangeAI platform, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality
- Document research findings and progress and present results to internal teams and external partners as required
- Ensure all project milestones are met within timelines
Required Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience in developing and deploying AI/ML models, specifically Graph Neural Networks, Transformer Models, and ViTs
- MSc in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, Chemistry, or a related field with a focus on AI/ML applications
- Basic understanding of mass spectrometry data analysis and chemical structure prediction
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and relevant AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS), specifically with connecting to GPU instances on AWS or other cloud service providers
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of chemistry, particularly analytical chemistry or mass spectrometry
- Knowledge of ethnopharmacology and traditional medicinal practices
